Groom arrested before wedding and charged with rape of student

OSSINING, N.Y., July 15 (UPI) -- A New York high school teacher was charged, on the day he was supposed to be married, with raping a 16-year-old student, officials said.

John M. Azabache, 31, of Port Chester, pleaded not guilty Friday to allegations he had sexual relations with the teenager between March 1 and July 1, The Journal News of White Plains, N.Y., reported Sunday.

Azabache surrendered Friday afternoon at Ossining Town Court hours before he was supposed to marry Amanda Rae DeLuccia of White Plains, the newspaper said.

Justice Nancy Quinn Koba issued an order of protection meant to keep Azabache away from the alleged victim and DeLuccia, MSN reported.

"It all just came out at the last minute," said Josephine DeLuccia, 92-year-old grandmother of the bride-to-be. "He always seemed like a nice guy. I don't know what happened. You men are all alike. You stink. I hope they send him to jail forever."

Azabache posted bail Friday and is due back in court Tuesday, The Journal News reported.
