AUGUSTA, Wis., July 4 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin teenager has been arrested and charged for allegedly threatening his foster family and setting booby traps in their basement, officials said.
Police showed up at the family's home on Monday at about 11:30 a.m. after receiving a report that Emmit M. Ritter-Simpson, 17, of Augusta, Wis., was being disorderly and threatened a family member, the Eau Claire (Wis.) Leader-Telegram reported.
Ritter-Simpson's foster father told police his wife called him home because the teen was disorderly.
When the foster father, whose name was not reported, arrived home, Ritter-Simpson was sharpening a wooden dowel with a utility knife. The teenager then allegedly attacked his foster father with the knife and the dowel, but the older man managed to tackle him.
Ritter-Simpson then went into the basement. When his foster father went to check on him a few minutes later, Ritter-Simpson pointed a compound bow at him.
Police evacuated the family from the home and tried to get Ritter-Simpson to come out of the basement.
Ritter-Simpson was later taken into custody without incident.
Police said they discovered booby traps in the basement after the teen was arrested. Ritter-Simpson had placed lubricant on door knobs and at the top of the basement steps, light bulbs on the bottom step and a barricade at the bottom of the steps, police said.
He was charged with two felony counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and misdemeanor charges of negligent handling of a weapon, criminal damage to property and obstructing an officer.
