Texas woman indicted in ricin threat case

TYLER, Texas, June 28 (UPI) -- A Texas woman has been indicted for allegedly sending letters laced with ricin to President Obama, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and a gun-control advocate.

The U.S. attorney's office said in a release Friday a federal grand jury handed up the three-count indictment Thursday against Shannon Richardson, 35, of New Boston.

Richardson is charged mailing threatening letters contaminated with the toxin last month to the president, Bloomberg and Mark Glaze, director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Richardson was arrested June 7 in Mount Pleasant, Texas, and has been jailed since then.

If convicted, she faces up to five years in federal prison on each count.

At the time of her arrest, NBC News reported she had told FBI agents her husband sent the letters, but investigators determined she sent them.
