'Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker' agrees to extradition

PHILADELPHIA, May 28 (UPI) -- Caleb McGillivary, accused of killing a 73-year-old lawyer, agreed Tuesday to be extradited from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, court records indicated.

McGillivary, 24 -- known as "Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker" when he became an Internet celebrity after thwarting an attacker with a hatchet while hitchhiking -- is charged with killing Joseph Galfly, a Rahway, N.J., attorney. Galfly was found severely beaten in his bed, the (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported.

Appearing on closed-circuit television from a Philadelphia correctional facility Tuesday, McGillivary identified himself as "Kai" and then as Caleb Lawrence McGillivary, and said he was aware he was wanted in Union County, N. J.

Assistant District Attorney Greg Engle said after the proceedings he did not know when McGillivary would be transferred.
