GRISWOLD, Conn., May 21 (UPI) -- A Griswold, Conn., woman pleaded guilty to beating her foster child with a wooden spoon and faces 100 days in prison, court documents said.

Jami Littlefield's plea bargain Monday in Norwich, Conn., Superior Court calls for a one-year prison sentence, to be suspended after 100 days served, for third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, The (Norwich) Bulletin reported Tuesday.

Police said Littlefield, 51, used a wooden kitchen spoon to beat the 4-year-old girl Jan. 7, adding the child's bruises were not noticed until Jan. 11 during a supervised visit from her biological parents.

Littlefield made her plea under the Alford doctrine, indicating she did not accept the account of circumstances in court by police and prosecutors, defense attorney Peter Catania said.
