Sky diver dies when parachute malfunctions

DELAND, Fla., May 9 (UPI) -- A skydiver died after his parachute malfunctioned during a jump in Florida's Volusia County, officials said.

The skydiver, a man believed to be in his 60s whose name was not reported, made the jump at Skydive DeLand just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, WFTV.com and the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

His parachute failed to open over a field near the DeLand Airport.

Police are investigating why the parachute did not deploy.
