VENTURA, Calif., May 6 (UPI) -- Fire crews said a fire that covered 28,000 acres and damaged 15 homes and five commercial buildings in California's Ventura County was near containment Monday.
Six firefighters and one civilian suffered minor injuries in the blaze, called the Springs fire, the Los Angeles Times reported.
As of Sunday evening, the fire was 75 percent contained and County Fire Capt. Scott Dettore said,
"We're going to have this thing out by tomorrow."
The Springs fire was sparked Thursday.
Cooler temperatures and high humidity were credited with helping firefighters control the wildfire, the Times said.
All evacuation orders had been lifted and several fire companies were sent home.
South of Banning, Calif., the Gorgonio fire was also declared 75 percent contained Sunday. The fire started Saturday and burned 650 acres.
There were no evacuation orders associated with the wildfire but it closed a roadway through the San Jacinto Mountains, the Times reported.
Another fire, the Summit fire just north of Banning, was under full containment Sunday. That fire began Wednesday, burning 3,200 acres, destroying one home and injuring two firefighters, the newspaper said.
