LOS ANGELES, April 28 (UPI) -- Actor Zach Braff has met his online fundraising goal of $2 million for "Wish I Was Here," the follow up to his 2004 film "Garden State."
The actor-director launched a Kickstarter for "Wish I Was Here" Wednesday and met his $2 million goal Saturday, with more than 28,000 people pledging money to the film, The Hollywood Reporter said.
"Dear Fans, I cannot believe your unbelievable support for WIWH. I wish I could hug each and every one of you," Braff posted on Twitter Friday.
Earlier this week, Braff said he chose to crowd-source the project because he would be able to maintain more creative control of the film, which he wrote with his brother, Adam, last summer.
"Now financiers are fine for lots of projects and it works out perfectly for many movies, but when you're trying to make these smaller personal art films, the idea of giving final cut away to someone else, it doesn't make any sense for me," said Braff, who made his writing and directing debut with "Garden State."
