COLLINSVILLE, Okla., April 8 (UPI) -- A small airplane crashed into a vacant house in Collinsville, Okla., resulting in at least one death, officials said.
A sheriff's deputy confirmed the pilot was killed when the plane crashed Sunday night, but officials said they didn't know how many people may have been on the plane, the Tulsa World reported Monday.
The plane, a single-engine Mooney, was traveling from Tulsa to Manhattan, Kan., and dropped off the radar 7 minutes after departing Tulsa International Airport, Lynn Lunsford, a regional public affairs manager for the Federal Aviation Administration, said.
The crash caused a small fire in the house that was struck, the World said.
No one on the ground was injured, Collinsville Police Chief Jimmie Richey said.
FAA investigators were en route to the crash site, Lunsford said. The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation, he said.
Neighbor Mickey Hampton said he was inside his house and heard a loud boom when the plane crashed. The impact shook his windows, he said.
He said he saw a "ball of fire" when he went outside to investigate.
