2 OSU students die, 7 hurt in Fla. crash

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla., March 18 (UPI) -- A car-truck collision in Florida killed two Ohio State University students heading home from spring break and injured seven other people, police said.

Witnesses told police the car drifted into oncoming traffic and jerked back into its lane before swerving into the path of a pickup truck in the Florida Panhandle Saturday, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.

Police said the car's driver was Brittney Gallagher, 21, of Willoughby. Gallagher and fellow OSU student Courtney Miller, 21, of Niles, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other OSU students in the car -- Lauren Kane, 22, of Willoughby, and Diana Mitchell, 22, of Solon -- were injured and hospitalized. Kane was in guarded condition and Mitchell in stable condition, doctors said.

The four women were on their way home from a spring break in Panama City Beach, Fla., authorities said.

The driver of the pickup, Kelly Porter, 26, and four passengers, all from Oklahoma, were all hospitalized. Their conditions were not reported.

A Florida Highway Patrol report stated that Gallagher and Miller were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and that alcohol was not involved.
