Man arrested on animal cruelty charges

FORT PIERCE, Fla., March 1 (UPI) -- A man was arrested on animal cruelty charges after allegedly beating his dogs and forcing rum down their throats in a Florida park, a police affidavit said.

Herbert Barron, 52, was arrested Wednesday after witnesses allegedly saw and recorded him slamming his two pit bulls to the ground and kicking them in Horatio Grisby Park in Fort Pierce, Fla., as well as holding the dogs' mouths open and pouring alcohol down their throats, TCPalm reported Friday.

When confronted by police, Barron said, "If my dogs don't listen to me then I'm going to put them into the ground," the affidavit said.

While being booked at the county jail, officials found marijuana in Barron's possession, leading to additional charges for smuggling contraband into the jail and marijuana possession, the website said.
