PRINCESS ANNE, Md., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- University of Maryland, Eastern Shore campus police said as many as 30 people witnessed the stabbing death of a student, and asked for assistance.
Speaking at a meeting of 3,000 students, faculty and staff of the Princess Anne, Md., school, interim Police Chief Kenneth Collins said he was aware of rumors of possible suspects in the death Saturday of Edmond St. Clair. He added police have spoken with "persons of interest" but declined to elaborate, saying, "There's nothing to confirm because no one has been arrested."
The victim's brother, Isaiah St. Clair, said he, his brother and a friend were driving through the campus Saturday night when they found three men in the road who would not move, The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday.
When Edmund St. Clair left the car to talk with the men he was stabbed through the heart, his brother said.
After the meeting Collins said officials believe there may be multiple witnesses, because a campus security officer in a nearby security booth heard Isaiah St. Clair's shouts and saw "20 to 30 students" running from the direction of the incident.
Edmund St. Clair's death was the second on campus during the weekend. Princess Anne police notified the school Monday that former student Dickson Muiruri was found dead in his off-campus residence, the Sun reported Wednesday.
Princess Anne Police Chief Scott Keller said the cause of Muiruri's death has not been determined.
