Defense seeks Trayvon Martin phone data

SANFORD, Fla., Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Lawyers say they're trying to obtain information from the phone carried by Florida teenager Treyvon Martin when he was shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

The Orlando Sentinel said defense attorneys will have to go to court to obtain the personal identification number for the cellphone from Martin's parents in order to extract more details about who the victim was in touch with prior to his fatal encounter with George Zimmerman in a Sanford subdivision.

"It looks like there is other information that I should have," said Mark O'Mara, defense counsel for Zimmerman.

Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, was shot and killed Feb. 26 by Zimmerman, who says he acted in self-defense.

O'Mara told the Sentinel the investigation by the state has thus far only extracted a portion of the data on the SIM card and SD card of Martin's phone. The phone's primary chip could be pulled and analyzed, though the state has thus far declined to do so.
