COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Former Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann will lose his law license for six months for mishandling campaign funds, the state Supreme Court ruled.
Dann, a Democrat, resigned his position in 2008 and was convicted in 2009 for filing false financial statements and using election campaign funds for various personal uses, misdemeanors for which Dann has paid a fine and completed mandated community service, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer said Tuesday.
The court Tuesday ruled that as a public official, Dann should be held to a higher standard, writing, "Like judges, the attorney general has a heightened duty to the public by virtue of his elected office," noting his actions caused "incalculable harm to the public perception of the attorney general's office."
