Kosilek wants electrolysis treatment

NORFOLK, Mass., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Convicted Massachusetts killer Michelle Kosilek, who was awarded a state-funded sex change operation, wants the state to pay for her electrolysis treatment.

Kosilek, formerly known as Robert Kosilek of Mansfield, was sentenced to life in prison for the 1990 strangulation of her 36-year-old wife, Cheryl Kosilek, the Boston Herald reported.

While in prison, Kosilek won a court battle to receive a taxpayer-funded sex change operation.

At the time of the ruling, Chief District Judge Mark L. Wolf remarked that Kosilek is "a man who truly believes that he is a female cruelly trapped in a male body."

Now she has requested that the state also pay for electrolysis treatments while she waits out prison officials' appeal of the surgery. Kosilek has also asked the court to refer to her with female pronouns only, as she is living as a woman at the all-male MCI Norfolk state prison.
