LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP, N.J., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A 28-year-old New Jersey man who said he was swept up by floodwaters during Hurricane Sandy left a note after breaking into a home to take refuge.

The letter, written by a 28-year-old named Mike, was posted on social media websites, the New York Daily News reported.

"WHO EVER READS THIS IM IN THE DARK AS IM WRITING THIS I'M DIEING -- Im 28 yrs old my name is Mike," the note said. "I had to break in your house. I took blankets off the couch. I have hypothermia. I didn't take any thing."

Some people questioned the note's authenticity, but WOBM, Ocean County, said it tracked down Mike from the phone number he put in the letter.

Mike told the station he was standing outside of his home when a wave swept him away. He said he was tossed about in the water for a bit until he was able to find his footing and make his way to a nearby home.

"I had no clothes on at the time, so I just went in their house, I just had one piece of clothing on me," Mike said.

Eventually Mike was rescued by a man named Frank on a WaveRunner, he said.

"He's the one who gave me clothes," Mike said. "They were really nice people, they put me by the gas stove. They were like, here are your clothes, here's everything, hot chocolate, everything to keep your body up."

Mike said he left the note to let his father know that he tried to survive.

"I just wanted to have that note to tell my father, I tried," Mike said. "You know, I wasn't a baby about it. I tried, I did my thing."
