W. Va. candidate killed in snowstorm

CHARLESTON, W.Va., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- West Virginia House of Delegates candidate John Rose died during a snowstorm resulting from Hurricane Sandy, Barbour County Sheriff John Hawkins said Thursday.

Rose was checking a fence on his deer farm around 2 p.m. Tuesday when a branch fell and hit him on the head, WBOY-TV, Clarksburg, reported.

The tree branch killed him instantly, Hawkins said.

West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant said in a release that her thoughts and prayers are with Rose's family.

Rose's name will still be on the General Election ballot because it is too late to replace him.

Should Rose get the most votes on Election Day Tuesday, citizens will have elected a vacancy and the Republican party executive committee of Barbour County will submit three names to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, who will select a replacement for House District 47.
