SANTA ANA, Calif., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A devil-worshiping cult killer in a California prison for nearly 40 years has been denied parole for a 13th time, officials said.
Allen Craig "Moose" Hulse, now 59, was convicted in 1975 for his role in two murders in 1970. He, along with cult leader Steven Hurd, killed two people on consecutive days in Orange County.
Their first victim was a Santa Ana gas station attendant, Jerry Wayne Carlin, 20, an unknowing father-to-be who was hacked to death with a Boy Scout hatchet in the station's bathroom. The second victim was a teacher from El Toro. Florence Nancy Brown, 29, was carjacked and taken to a field where she was stabbed 20 times, The Orange County Register said.
The pair were part of a roaming band of devil worshippers who had been using drugs heavily.
A two-member parole board said Hulse, who was 16 at the time of the killings, has not sufficiently grasped the impact of his crimes and that he represents a significant threat to the public if set free, the newspaper said.
