NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A New Jersey school administrator has been charged with possession of child pornography.
Nicholas G. Sysock, vice principal of the high school in Carteret, N.J., appeared in federal court Tuesday, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported. He had been arrested a few hours earlier and immediately suspended from his position.
Sysock, 53, faces up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted. Federal investigators said he admitted having DVDs with pornographic images on them during a search of his home.
During 21 years in the Carteret schools, Sysock had a reputation as an energetic teacher and administrator. He started as a middle school history teacher and earned a reputation by staging Civil War re-enactments for his students.
One former student who signed as Jay Bu reacted to the Star-Ledger story: "Cant believe this..I've read a lot of these stories lately, but to see this one kind of blew me away. He was my 7th grade History teacher. Shocking news that's for sure."
