Texas infant dies after mauling by dog

BURLESON, Texas, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- A 3-month-old boy who died Monday, after being mauled by his father's dog, was asleep when he was attacked, Burleson, Texas, police said.

Police were making door-to-door rounds of the area, seeking information on a 911 hang-up cellphone call, when they came upon a domestic disturbance between the infant's parents, Burleson Police Commander Cindy Aaron said.

Police separated the couple and photographed reported injuries, and were outside taking statements when the mauling occurred, she said.

A relative, believed to be the baby's grandfather, grabbed the boy from the dog and ran outside. Officers administered first aid to the child, identified as Rayden Bruce, until paramedics arrived, but the infant was pronounced dead at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, the Fort Worth, Texas, Star-Telegram reported Wednesday.

The dog, a 4-year-old pit bull, was euthanized at the owner's request, said Kim Peckler, supervisor of Burleson's Animal Services.
