JONESBORO, Ark., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A man was arrested for allegedly making a bomb threat Tuesday that led to the evacuation of part of the Arkansas State University campus, authorities said.
Campus police took Carlon Walker, 44, of Jonesboro into custody and were holding him at the Craigshead County jail, the ASU student newspaper The Herald reported, quoting a press release issued at 6:32 p.m. local time. Walker is not an ASU student, the newspaper said.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported University Hall, a women's residence hall housing nearly 400 students, and the nearby International Student Center were evacuated after the threat was received about 2:45 p.m. The Herald said students were notified about the evacuation about 3:06 p.m. through the Emergency Alert System and were advised to stay at least 300 feet away from the dormitory.
The school has about 13,500 students and about 1,400 faculty and staff.
The threat was the fourth at a U.S. college campus since last week. Earlier threats at Louisiana State University, the University of Texas and North Dakota State University turned out to be hoaxes.
