MIAMI, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A police officer was recovering from surgery Wednesday after authorities said gunfire erupted as Miami police investigated a possible marijuana grow house.
A suspect was killed during the Tuesday night shootout with police and FBI agents who were investigating a tip that marijuana was being grown at the residence, The Miami Herald reported.
The unidentified narcotics officer, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest, was shot by a person inside a car as officers approached the front door of the home about sundown, police said.
The man in the car was shot and killed. A man inside the house was taken into custody.
Police set up a command post at the scene to determine if there were any more suspects, utilizing a SWAT vehicle and portable floodlights. An FBI team and a K-9 unit also assisted.
A neighbor said at least 30 police cars filled the street of the usually pacific West Miami neighborhood.
The wounded officer was reported in stable condition Tuesday night.
