Mo. man cleared in family shooting deaths

GLENDALE, Mo., July 31 (UPI) -- Authorities said Tuesday they did not consider a Glendale, Mo., man a suspect in the shooting deaths of his wife and two children.

Mitchell Murch III initially made an emergency phone call Monday morning to say he had heard shots in the family's home. In a follow-up call, he said he had found his wife and children dead.

It appeared Catherine Murch, 42, had killed their children -- Mitchell, 10, and Mary Claire, 8 -- and then herself, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

A day later, police had yet to piece together what had led to the shootings. However, police said in a statement they had found "no reason to be concerned about a suspect at large," the newspaper said.

The Post-Dispatch said Mitchell Murch had worked for less than a year at Centaur Building Services, but that a company representative said his position had been terminated July 1.

The newspaper said Catherine Murch's online profile described her as a registered nurse who most recently worked as a St. Louis-area treatment educator for Special Design Healthcare.
