Car crushed in Ill. derailment

GLENVIEW, Ill., July 5 (UPI) -- Cleanup crews found a body in the wreckage of a coal train derailment and bridge collapse north of Chicago, officials said.

Glenview Fire Chief Wayne Globerger said they began to suspect a car had been crushed in the Wednesday accident earlier in the day after a bumper was found among the debris. Three engines and 31 of 138 cars of the train headed from Wyoming to Wisconsin derailed Wednesday on the Union Pacific tracks amid 102-degree temperatures.

The victim had yet to be identified, Glenview Deputy Police Chief Phil Perlini said. He said no one had been reported missing, making it possible there is a second victim as well, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Union Pacific officials will carry out the investigation into the accident, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

"We'll look at all the factors, including the heat's impact on the bridge's structure," Davis said.

Also under investigation is whether Wednesday's wreck was related to a 2009 derailment in the same location, WBBM-AM, Chicago, said.
