After being towed by a single-engine plane, the glider was released and "took a nose dive and crashed into the ground," the state Department of Public Safety said in a statement.
Fred Blair, 68, Matilda Blair, 32, and 3-year-old Andrew Blair died at the scene.
The towing plane is registered to Greater Houston Soaring Association, which offers recreational gliding outside of Houston.
