MIAMI, June 12 (UPI) -- The homeless man who was attacked and had much of his face chewed off by a drug-crazed man in Miami might have bullet wounds in his chest, doctors said Tuesday.

Dr. Nicholas Namias said the victim, Ronald Poppo, has two "mysterious" puncture wounds in his chest, The Miami Herald reported.

Doctors said Poppo lost his left eye and sustained serious injury to his right eye, possibly leaving him blind. He also suffered brain trauma from the attack.

A police officer shot and killed the attacker, Rudy Eugene, May 26 on the MacArthur Causeway.

Eugene was quickly nicknamed the "Miami Zombie" or "Causeway Cannibal" in the media and blogosphere, though it appeared Eugene didn't swallow any flesh. Bits of flesh were found on the sidewalk and stuck in the suspect's teeth, the newspaper said.

The Herald said the autopsy did turn up some undigested pills in Eugene's stomach and traces of marijuana in his system. The autopsy will likely be released several months from now, once prosecutors complete their review of the case.
