Supreme Court rejects detainee appeals

WASHINGTON, June 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. Supreme Court Monday declined to second-guess anti-terrorism policies, denying appeals by seven Guantanamo Bay detainees.

The court also rejected an appeal by Jose Padilla, the U.S. citizen who was declared an enemy combatant for allegedly planning a radiological attack on the United States and was ater convicted in federal court of conspiring to kill.

The decisions came just one day before the fourth anniversary of a decision that gave Guantanamo prisoners the right to seek release but left the lower courts to deal with the issue, ScotusBLOG noted.

Without dissent, the court left it to the D.C. Circuit Court to have the final say on 169 foreign nationals still being held at Guantanamo.
