Michael Belton, who had taken 23 $5,000 chips, was caught by casino security and held until police arrived, authorities said.

Belton told police he participated because he was unemployed and needed money to help his ailing grandparents, KLAS said

Belton identified the second man only as "Carlos," police said.

Police said Belton had a key to a Mandalay Bay hotel room that had been registered to Carlos Rodriguez, who Belton told police had planned the crime. Belton said Rodriguez was not the same Carlos as the man who was with him at the casino.

Belton was charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary.
