Ala. family members indicted on tax fraud

MONTGOMERY, Ala., May 4 (UPI) -- Nine members of an Alabama family were indicted Friday on charges of conspiring to get tax refunds using stolen identities, the U.S. Justice Department said.

The 33-count indictment charged all nine with conspiring to defraud the United States, conspiring to commit theft of public funds and theft of public funds, the department said in a release.

Barbara Murry, Douglas Murry, Douglas Murry III, Yolanda Moses, Lee Moses, Veronica Temple, Jeffrey Temple, Almetta Johnson and Courtney Johnson were charged in the an indictment by a federal grand jury in the Middle District of Alabama unsealed Friday.

Barbara Murry, Yolanda Moses and Veronica Temple also were charged with aggravated identity theft.

The indictment said Barbara Murry owned and operated B & B Weaving Shop, in the same building in Montgomery, Ala., as B & B Tax Service, owned and operated by Barbara Murry's daughter, Yolanda Moses.

The indictment said the mother, daughter and Veronica Temple allegedly filed false federal income tax returns with stolen identities and had refunds deposited into the bank accounts of the defendants and others.

The bank accounts received at least $1.3 million in false tax refunds, the indictment said.
