No arrests in Vegas shootings

LAS VEGAS, March 12 (UPI) -- Las Vegas police said Monday no one had been arrested in weekend shootings that left five people wounded.

Three people were wounded in gunfire at a Rio Hotel and Casino parking garage about 3:50 am. Sunday and two were shot as about 40 people gathered at University Medical Center, where the victims of the first shooting were taken, the Las Vegas Sun reported. Police said one of several responding officers exchanged shots with one of the assailants at the parking garage, the newspaper reported.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief James Owens said those involved, including four of the five wounded, had gang affiliations, but it wasn't known what prompted the shootings. Search warrants were out for two vehicles involved in the parking garage incident, Owens said.

"There are many questions still unanswered," Owens said.

Security presence was increased at the hospital Monday, Owens said.
