SHERMAN, N.Y., March 12 (UPI) -- Four young Amish people were charged with alcohol possession after the collision of a sheriff's patrol car and Amish buggy in New York, officials said.
The accident occurred in Chautauqua County Sunday evening, The Buffalo (N.Y.) News reported.
At the time of the crash, deputies were responding to a report of an underage drinking party on Heslink Hollow Road. Deputies came across several Amish buggies taking up both lanes of traffic and the patrol car collided with one of them, causing the buggy to flip, officials said.
One other buggy stayed at the scene while the rest fled, deputies said.
Marty Troyer, 20, of Panama, was operating the buggy that flipped, The Post-Local, Jamestown, N.Y., reported.
A passenger of the flipped buggy, Marvin Byler, 19, of Sherman, suffered minor injuries. Marianne Troyer, 18, and Leroy Troyer, 20, were in the buggy that stopped.
Several containers of alcoholic beverages were found in the buggies and all four youths were allegedly found to be consuming alcohol. They were all charged with underage possession of alcohol and Marty Troyer was additionally charged with unlawfully dealing with a child because he was allegedly hosting the party.
