NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Three workers who appeared in a film critical of Republican U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney's corporate record say they were misrepresented.

The 28-minute "When Mitt Romney Came to Town" film examines his record running the Bain Capital investment firm. The film focuses on four companies Bain acquired under Romney's leadership and suggests all four were gutted of employees across the country, The Wall Street Journal reported.

However, three people who worked for a Florida company that manufactures washing machines told the Journal the film, also known as "King of Bain," inaccurately says they lost their jobs. Rather, they each received promotions and raises, they said.

The three told the Journal they were approached in September by John Burke, who said he was a documentary filmmaker from Baton Rouge, La.

Burke didn't respond to calls from the newspaper.

Republican rival Newt Gingrich referred to the film in a debate last weekend, but has since asked his supporters to shy away from its apparent misstatements.

"I am calling for the Winning Our Future Super PAC supporting me to either edit its 'King of Bain' advertisement and movie to remove its inaccuracies or to pull it off the air and off the Internet entirely," Gingrich said in a statement.
