CONCORD, N.H., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- If Mitt Romney doesn't win the Republican primary in New Hampshire next week, he should drop out of the race, GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich said.

The former House speaker from Georgia told ABC's "Good Morning America" Friday Romney should win hands down because he had a summer home in New Hampshire and was governor of neighboring Massachusetts.

"Look, this is one of his best states other than Utah [where he was born] and Massachusetts. If he doesn't win here, he couldn't stay in the race," Gingrich said.

Several polls showed Romney with a substantial lead in New Hampshire. He is expected to win the state.

Gingrich, meanwhile, is struggling to regain the momentum his campaign had a month ago and has expressed annoyance with negative ads against him in Iowa that were underwritten by a pro-Romney super political action committee. Recent polls show Gingrich is in fourth or fifth place going into Tuesday's primary.
