Elisa Baker seeks deal on drug charges

Dec. 22, 2011 at 1:47 PM

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Elisa Baker, the North Carolina woman sentenced for the murder of her stepdaughter Zahra, is asking for a plea deal on federal drug charges, court papers show.

Her attorney filed paperwork Monday for a plea deal in the federal case against her, WCNC-TV, Charlotte, N.C., reported.

Baker, sentenced to as long as 18 years in prison for the murder of her disabled 10-year-old stepdaughter, faces three federal drug charges, accused of selling pills in Catawba and Caldwell counties.

In May a grand jury indicted Baker on seven counts of drug trafficking.

The combined charges could carry a 60-year jail sentence and a fine of $2.25 million, WCNC-TV reported.
