Teen charged in killings now in adult jail

AKRON, Ohio, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- A teenager facing trial as an adult in Ohio on murder charges is now being held in a grownup jail, authorities say.

Brogan Rafferty, 16, was transferred from Noble County to the Summit County Jail, the Akron Beacon Journal reported. Noble County does not have the facilities to comply with Ohio law that juveniles being held in adult facilities must be completely segregated from adult prisoners.

Rafferty and Richard Beasley, 52, allegedly killed men lured by a Craigslist ad offering work. The ad promised a trailer home and $300 a week for serving as a caretaker on a farm.

One of their victims managed to get away, setting off an investigation that led to the discovery of two bodies.

A judge ruled last week that Rafferty can be tried as an adult on aggravated murder and attempted murder charges.

Gary James, the jail administrator in Noble County, said Beasley is being held in the same jail but Rafferty will never see him.

A hearing scheduled Thursday for Beasley has been postponed until January.
