Raw sewage flows into Calif. waters

CAMBRIA, Calif., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A power outage at a sewage treatment plant caused about 10,000 gallons of raw sewage to be released into a California stream, authorities said.

A blown circuit breaker in an electrical panel caused the release of sewage into Santa Rosa Creek in Cambria, The San Luis Obispo County Tribune reported Sunday.

County officials said power to the plant was later restored using an emergency generator.

Authorities said they were warning local residents to avoid the waters of Santa Rosa Creek and the ocean at Moonstone Beach Park, since coming into contact or ingesting contaminated waters could be hazardous.
