Sailing accident leaves 1 dead, 1 missing

ANNAPOLIS, Md., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A sailboat capsized in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay Saturday, and authorities say it appeared only one of the three people aboard survived.

The (Annapolis) Capital reported a 25-year-old woman was plucked from the 47-degree water at 3:45 p.m., about 45 minutes after the 18-foot boat overturned. She was hospitalized in serious condition with hypothermia.

A 40-year-old man was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

A 25-year-old man who also was on board had not been found and was presumed to have drowned, the newspaper said.

The trio's sailboat capsized just north of the Bay Bridge. Winds were 10-15 mph at the time.

Authorities said they thought all three companions, who were not identified, were wearing life vests.
