Boy climbs out of wreckage to save mom

BERNE, N.Y., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A heroic 6-year-old boy from Berne, N.Y., crawled out of the wreckage of a car following an accident to save his mother, officials say.

Aaron Wright was riding in the car with his mother Dolores Dober Saturday afternoon when the car skidded off the road and down a 50-foot embankment, landing upside-down, the Albany (N.Y) Times Union reported.

Dober was stuck dangling by her seat belt, so the boy made his way out of the car, climbed up the hill and flagged down other drivers for help.

"In my line of work, you don't get a chance to send out a whole lot of positive news," said Acting Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, who gave the account of the accident and rescue. "He's a smart little fella."

The driver of a pickup truck, who Dober almost collided with, stopped and called 911, as did several other drivers.

Soon after, an ambulance arrived at the scene and rushed Aaron and his mother to a hospital. Both suffered only minor injuries and were later released.

No charges would be filed, Apple said.
