Prodigy, 21, about to become doctor
CHICAGO, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed in a suburb northwest of Chicago late Monday, killing three people and injuring two others, authorities said.
A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration told the Chicago Sun-Times the pilot of the twin-engine Piper Navajo reported fuel problems shortly before the plane went down.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene they extinguished a small fire.
The plane, owned by Trans North Aviation Limited, was enroute from Jesup-Wayne County Airport in Georgia to Chicago Executive Airport in suburban Prospect Heights, Ill., said FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory.
On board were a medical patient, his wife, two pilots and a flight paramedic, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Ron Schaberg, owner and president of Trans North Aviation, said the fatal crash is the first that his company has experienced in more than 30 years.
Names of the victims have not been released.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
