Reno wildfire 100 pct contained

RENO, Nev., Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A wildfire that devoured nearly 2,000 acres and destroyed 29 homes near Reno, Nev., was 100 percent contained, fire officials said.

The wind-driven Caughlin fire broke out Friday and burned through the weekend until firefighters were able to fully contain it Sunday night, the Reno (Nev.) Gazette-Journal reported Monday.

The evacuation order for about 10,000 residents was lifted Saturday after utilities were restored to the neighborhoods.

The newspaper said arcing power lines caused by the blustery winds appear to have sparked the blaze Friday morning

Gov. Brian Sandoval declared a state emergency, the first step to seeking federal assistance. Nevada was also approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for a Fire Management Assistance Grant, the governor's office said.
