Greyhound driver abandons passengers

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A Greyhound bus driver abandoned passengers at a truck stop in Charleston, Mo., after an incident with an unruly passenger, a company official says.

Passengers on the bus arrived in St. Louis about 11 hours late Saturday after the bus driver left them, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Greyhound spokeswoman Maureen Richmond said the bus trip originated in Memphis and was scheduled to arrive in St. Louis at 1 a.m.

At some point, the bus driver ordered an unruly passenger off the bus, which is within the driver's discretion, Richmond said, but some passengers objected.

The driver then parked the bus at a Pilot truck stop in Charleston, left and never came back, Richmond said. The company sent another bus to bring the stranded passengers to St. Louis, but it took several hours to get there. It was nearly noon by the time passengers arrived in St. Louis.

Company officials expect to take "significant disciplinary action" against the driver, Richmond said.

"It's inexcusable," Richmond said. "I don't know why this would occur. I've never heard of it before."

Greyhound is offering a full refund for the inconvenienced passengers with proof of travel.
