Figure in missing student case speaks out

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A man considered a person of interest in the case of a missing Indiana student says he had nothing to do with the disappearance and has cooperated with police.

Jason Rosenbaum, the last person to report seeing Indiana University sophomore Lauren Spierer before she disappeared June 3, said he met with Spierer's parents and with a private investigator they have hired answering all of their questions about the case, Rosenbaum's lawyer, Jen Lukemeyer, said.

"Yes, I have cooperated since day one, and I will continue to cooperate," Rosenbaum told The (White Plains, N.Y.) Journal News.

Robert and Charlene Spierer, the missing coed's parents, live in New York.

Rosenbaum is one of several "persons of interest" in the ongoing police investigation of Spierer's disappearance and her parents have expressed skepticism about his statements and level of cooperation.

Rosenbaum, an IU student who lives in the apartment Spierer visited before she vanished, met with the Spierers in Lukemeyer's office Sept. 19, she said. The Spierers' lawyer also was present.

"It was a full two-hour discussion," Lukemeyer said. "He answered everything they put in front of him."
