Texas courthouse break-in prank or terror?

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Officials said Wednesday they were trying to figure out whether a break-in at the Bexar County Courthouse in downtown San Antonio was a "prank" or terror plot.

Five Moroccan men were arrested at the courthouse around 1 a.m. after an alarm went off.

"It's just so very strange," County Judge Nelson Wolff told a press conference on the courthouse steps. "If it was just a group of kids here in the neighborhood ... you would think it was just a prank."

But the intruders appeared to know where they were going, and "it's either some guys on a prank of some sort, or it could be terrorists," Wolff said.

Officials looked in their vehicle and found photos of courthouses, dams and other landmarks, sources told the San Antonio Express-News, but said the material may just be souvenirs.

The newspaper said the men had been in the United States since September on 90-day tourist visas and were traveling in a recreational vehicle. At least two appeared to be French-Moroccan, a source told the newspaper.

Three of the men were seen on surveillance video entering the building from a fire escape, picking up a gavel and putting on sombreros before going to the roof, Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz said.

A Bexar County sheriff's official, who asked not to be named, earlier said the three appeared to be drunk.

The two others were arrested outside the courthouse.

The FBI said it joined Texas law enforcement officials in investigating the incident and was working with immigration authorities to verify the men's status.
