Man indicted for Viagra-like 'supplement'

SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- A Utah man has been indicted for selling erectile dysfunction "supplements" allegedly containing Viagra-related drugs linked to serious health problems.

Kelly Dean Harvey allegedly imported a product containing sulfoaildenafil from China for use in "dietary supplements" marketed under various names including 'Stiff Nights," "Size Matters," "Natural Wow" and "OMG," the Salt Lake Tribune reported Tuesday.

The use of sulfoaildenafil would have subjected the supplements to regulation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration but their labeling failed to list it as an ingredient, the indictment said.

"Stiff Nights" was sold online as a "dietary supplement" and claimed as 100 percent natural and safe.

In February 2009, the FDA warned erectile dysfunction supplements being sold online could contain prescription drugs that risk harmful side effects.

Drug labeling on Pfizer's own Viagra warns that people taking heart or blood-thinning medications could suffer heart attack or stroke by using their product.

Charges against Harvey include conspiracy, wire fraud, mail fraud, concealment of money laundering and four counts of money laundering, the Tribune reported.
