KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- An anti-war activist from Norfolk, Va., was sentenced to 8 months in federal prison Tuesday for a protest outside a uranium storage facility in Tennessee.
Steve Baggarly must remain behind bars for about 4 months, The Virginian-Pilot reported. He was jailed after he was convicted in May.
Baggarly, who operates the Norfolk Catholic Worker House with his wife, Kim William, is a veteran protester with a long history of arrests and convictions. His current term is his second longest.
Twelve people were arrested at last year's protest at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Three have not yet been sentenced, and one, a nun, has died.
At his sentencing, Baggarly called for the United States to take up nuclear disarmament and read descriptions of the bombing at Hiroshima during World War II.
