MIAMI, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A 13-year-old boy who allegedly snatched a purse from an elderly woman was turned into police by his mother, Miami police said.

The boy's mother said she recognized her son on surveillance video that was aired on TV, showing the boy running with a red purse just minutes after the alleged attack on a 78-year-old woman outside a downtown Miami metrorail station, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

The teen allegedly grabbed the woman's purse and pushed her to the ground. She was treated for a broken elbow and bruises, the newspaper said.

Police said the teen, who allegedly confessed to the June 25 robbery when he was turned in last week, is charged with sudden snatch/strong arm robbery and battery on the elderly.
