Grandfather says Caylee overdosed on drugs

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- George Anthony said on the U.S. TV talk show "Dr. Phil" he believes his daughter gave his granddaughter Caylee drugs to sedate the child so she could go out.

ABC News reported Wednesday the Florida grandfather told Phil McGraw he believes Casey Anthony employed unspecified drugs as a chemical babysitter so she could "go out and have a good time" and that the 2-year-old did not drown in the family pool as his daughter claimed.

"Inside of my heart, I don't believe that Caylee drowned. … I believe there's something else that happened to her. … I believe that Casey or someone else that she was with possibly gave too much [drugs] to Caylee ... she fell asleep and didn't wake up," George Anthony said.

Casey Anthony was acquitted of her daughter's 2008 murder this summer.

Cindy Anthony, the child's grandmother, told her husband on camera it was the first time she had heard him make those claims. "I'm really kind of shocked to hear that today," she said, adding she believes Caylee drowned accidentally and the verdict was just.

But she said she thinks her daughter may have withheld information about Caylee's whereabouts for months, possibly to protect an accomplice.

"I know Casey knows where Caylee was placed. I know in my heart that now," she said. "I'm not sure if she put her there by herself or if someone helped her."
