LAS VEGAS, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Six people have sued a Las Vegas casino resort, charging they contracted Legionnaire's disease while staying there.
The lawsuits name the Aria hotel, CityCenter, the development where it is located, MGM Resorts, which has a 50 percent interest in City Center, and Tutor Perini, the general contractor, the Las Vegas Sun reported. The plaintiffs claim faulty construction and maintenance contributed to a Legionnaire's outbreak.
Legionnaire's is a form of pneumonia caused by a bacterium found in air-conditioning systems and similar wet environments. The disease was first identified in people infected while attending an American Legion convention at a Philadelphia hotel.
Health officials said six cases of the disease appear to be linked to the Aria. The hotel said it was notifying guests who were there between June 21 and July 4 that the Legionnaire's bacterium were found in some rooms.
