Man arrested in Molotov cocktail attack

ALGONQUIN, Ill., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Police in Algonquin, Ill., said they arrested a man who walked in a grocery story and threw a Molotov cocktail into a crowd of shoppers, injuring one man.

Police said Fabian J. Torres entered Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market Sunday and allegedly threw the homemade incendiary device into a crowd standing near the deli department,

"It landed literally 4 feet behind me and I saw the flames go up a guy's leg and shorts," Thom Petrowski, who was shopping with his wife and 5-year-old son, told the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald .

"I just chased him [Torres] out of Caputo's into the parking lot and when he knew I was right on him he took off," Petrowski said.

Petrowski then helped an off-duty police officer subdue Torres and they held him until police arrived.

Torres was charged with aggravated arson, Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Ed Urban said.

"We are trying to confirm the motive right now," Urban said. "We are going to be meeting tomorrow with the [McHenry County] state's attorney's office to see if there will be more charges."
