Investigators said Leisage, trying to keep down the number of stray cats at La Cresta Mobile Estates, set traps. He allegedly used ether to kill at least three cats.

Janice Whittington, who lives at La Cresta, said her pet, Fluffy, was one of the three cats killed. She said Fluffy was wearing a collar with ID information.

The dead cats, wrapped in plastic, were found in a dumpster.

"It's very disheartening to know people would take this type of action against any living creature," said Joe Stafford, an animal control officer.

The Humane Society has been trapping feral cats at La Cresta, getting them neutered and then releasing them. The society advises residents to get their pets neutered and to keep them indoors.
